Marijan Dović at the congress of The Network for Avant-Garde and Modernism Studies

The fourth biennial congress of The Network for Avant-Garde and Modernism Studies (EAM) was held from 29–31 August 2014 at The University of Helsinki. Previous congresses, whose special value lies in their interdisciplinary focus on literature, the visual arts, music, architecture and film, were held in Ghent, Poznan and Canterbury. SImilarly, the Finnish organisers gathered under the title ‘Utopia’ numerous experts in the field as well as many leading curators. In addition to invited lecturers Ester Coen, Elza Adamowicz and Nina Gourianova, over 200 researchers from all over the world presented their current research. As in previous congresses, the focus was on the early avant-gardes (with Günter Berghaus continuing the ambitious project on the International Yearbook of Futurism Studies) and their radical utopias. As a long-standing member of the EAM, Marijan Dović presented a paper on early utopias of Slovenian and Croatian avant-gardists.
